Kentucky Quarter Horse Racing Association

Who We Are

The Kentucky Quarter Horse Racing Association (KyQHRA) represents the interests of Quarter Horse owners, breeders, riders, and industry supporters across Kentucky. Our responsibilities include coordinating with track operators, supporting the growth of racing opportunities, and promoting a healthy and sustainable environment for Quarter Horse racing.

Our Mission

We are dedicated to growing Quarter Horse racing and breeding in Kentucky by expanding race opportunities, supporting Kentucky-bred incentives, and ensuring our members have a strong voice in the future of the sport. Kentucky offers one of the most lucrative state-bred programs in the country — and we are committed to helping individuals take full advantage of it.

Racing Partnerships

KyQHRA works closely with track partners to bring high-quality Quarter Horse races to Kentucky.

  • In 2023, KyQHRA hosted the first Quarter Horse meet in the state since 2010, held at The Red Mile in Lexington.
  • We have now successfully completed two consecutive meets at The Red Mile.
  • Future meets will be held at the new Sandy Ridge Racetrack in Boyd County, currently under development.

Kentucky Quarter Horse Development Fund

KyQHRA plays an important role in the administration and communication of the Kentucky Quarter Horse Development Fund (KyQHRA), which supports breeders, owners, and the racing ecosystem through:

  • Purse supplements
  • Breeder incentives
  • Mare, stallion, and foal registration programs
  • Kentucky-bred verification

The fund is overseen by an Advisory Committee that includes KHRC members, racetrack representatives, mare and horse owners, and a KyQHRA board member.
